Great to see that he understands that the patent and trademark system must serve to protect “those on the leading edge of innovation.” It will be interesting to hear his position on the details of the various reform measures.

I actually think a Representative from this neck of the woods could have an interesting viewpoint on the matter – we’re not really tied to any particular industry in “the battle,” so it’s at least conceivable that he could take an objective look at the issue and focus on “protecting those on the leading edge of innovation.”

Your new representative (actually his term began in 2007) has at least heard the words “Patent Reform.” In fact, on Jan 7, he cosponsored a resolution — H.Res.30 — with an interesting title: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that in order to continue aggressive growth in our Nation’s telecommunications and technology industries, the United States Government should ‘‘Get Out of the Way and Stay Out of the Way.’’ Included in the resolution is a statement that the House should act to reform “our patent and trademark system to protect the intellectual property of those on the leading edge of innovation.”
